Almost done! There are probably only about 15 left to do… sectioned off in elastics at the back of my head. But I can't see them, so to me, it feels done! Maybe it will be tonight or tomorrow.
I have lots of knitted head-gear ideas floating around in my head. I'm sure I'll get sick of this black thing soon enough. I'll have to get more creative about what I accessorize with.
Wheeee, fun!

Well, I've finally bit the bullet and I'm dreading my hair!
I've wanted to do this for so longprobably since high school, but every time I considered doing it, I thought of all sorts of excuses NOT to. Such as what my parents will think, what my boss will do, what if I don't like them, etc… but I frankly just don't care about that anymore. I feel like I shouldn't care if they disapprove. It's something I want to do, so I'm following my heart and doing it.
A friend of mine shaved her head recently. For as long as I've known her she had long curly locks, and one day she came over with short little fuzzies. She looks great.
While I've never really had any desire to shave my head, her doing so helped remove some fear I had about doind seemingly perminant things to hair. After all, it's just hair.

So, I started something new again… not that I really have the time to be working on anything new, but I did it anyway. On Friday I brought home one ball of yellow Sundance, with the intentions of designing a crochet swatchjust a swatch. The design I had in mind I knew would be something I would want for my own. Since I was hoping to receive a last-minute tech editing project that I thought would occupy much of my weekend, I only anticipated having time to swatch.
Unfortunately (or fortunately?), said project did not arrive leaving my weekend open for yarn play. The swatch took me very little time, and once it was completed I was totally ITCHING to hook one of these things up for myself! In an attempt to satisfy this itching, I decided that I'd open a Word doc and start the pattern, since that needs to be made before the garment anyway... but I ran into a problem and absolutely HAD to pull out some yarn and a hook to wrap my head around the concept.
I initially tried scaling the numbers down so I didn't have to begin the whole sweater, but no, I needed the full stitch count. So, after hemming and hawing about really wanting to make this dress in YELLOW, I gave in and pulled out the white Sundance from my stash and got started. I do still want one in yellow though. Why yellow? Who knows! I'm not a yellow person... but it wants to be in yellow for some reason... then maybe a brown one too! Yeah!

As for that crocheted raglan a few posts down, the yoke has taken over my nightmares... I've had to pull it out 3 times already. I have the feeling I may need to rip out some of the sleeves and adjust it there to completely satisfy my crazy OCD. At the moment, I haven't had the gumption to figure it out, so it's hibernating again. For the moment.
For the shawl below, I did have enough yarn to put a 2" frindge in every stitch around the lower edge. It seriously helps make the shawl have the illusion of being larger than it is, and adds a little personality to the thing! Yay for findge!

I love finishing things. I'm almost positive that I've said that before, but every time something is finished I really feel a sence of satisfaction. I'm sure all you crafters out there can relate.
I am a little disapointed with the length of it. I was hoping that the 4 balls would get me a little further along than this, but it's acceptable. I ended at a particular place in the stitch pattern, then worked 4 rows in Seed stitch, so there is still a little yarn leftover. Definitely not more than 3 rows worth though. I'm considering cutting it up and turning it into a short fringe. We'll see.
This shawl only took me 4 days. It was knit on size 11 needles, so I'm not overwelmed with the stitch pattern yet. I'm still itching to keep knitting it. At the moment I need to move on to other things, but this pattern is staying in mind for when I feel the urge to knit something pink.

For appreciation of a wonderful woman

I can't share the details just yet, but this shawl has been designed for someone who certainly deserves every stitch of it!
I pulled out 4 balls of cashmere from my stash and was inspired by a design by Pam Allen. I'm hoping the 4 balls will be enough. I just started ball 3 and I'm pretty sure the shawl will be of decent length, however I won't really know for sure until I finish it.
I'll need to buy a long size 11 circular to finish it. I started it on 14" straights and I have to stop because if I add any more stitches I won't be able to fit them all on the needle. Plus, it's bedtime... two good reasons to stop and go to bed.
Sweet Dreams everyone!

Hang out with me on Ravelry!
April 2nd, 2008
|
Alright... I'll admitI was entirely too bored yesterday. I created a group on Ravelry to occupy some time. But now that it's created I think it will be a great place where I can get to know all you mysterious invisible people who read my blog and visit my site. I know I don't have anyplace for comments here on my blogit's due to my lack of php skills, and understanding of how to edit blogger templates. So, I'm hoping this may encourage you guys to chat with me! I'd love to know your thoughts about the stuff I post about on here, and if you have ideas, or suggestions, or questions... anything you want to talk about. You can now do it here. Don't be afraid. I don't bite!
For those of you who still aren't on Ravelry, this won't help you out much... all I can say is that you should add your name to their waiting list! You'll be happy you did. Seriously... well, if you play with yarn that is… otherwise I don't see what use it would have for you...
I hope to see you guys there.

Princess Raglan, 85%

This is where I'm at with the raglan. Finishing something is so exciting for me that even with the yoke left to finish, I'm bringing it everywhere with me. I asked Cecily to try it on so I could photograph it to show you guys, so that's Cecily behind the yarn. It's not meant to be worn over other clothes, but since it's not finished, and I photographed it at work... it only made sense to do it this way. I've tried it on at home the way it's meant to be worn, and it feels and fits wonderfully! I really can not wait to finish this. I forsee the fastening off happening this weekend, but no promises.

This raglan is quite the learning experience for me. I had the pattern written to the yoke. I stopped because I wasn't sure how to continue from that point. Now that I'm at the yoke, I've had to experiment with a few different ways of decreasing. I knew I wanted holes at each side of the raglan shaping. I've worked the first three rows of the yoke three different ways before settling on one that I'm thuroughly thrilled with.

Fruit Cozies!

To serve and protect all those defenseless apples, pears and bananas!
See the Web-Letter.
Download the patterns.
In other news… The crocheted raglan is nearing completion!!! Can you believe it?!?! Last night I finished the second sleeve, seamed the sides and underarms, then began the yoke. The thing I love about yokes is that each row takes less time than the previous row, so it seems to progress faster and faster… I'm planning on finishing this before anything else falls into my lap.
IT WILL BE DONE!
Have a happy Tuesday. Eat fruit.
