I'm finished with the back of the Philosopher's Girl sweater and I've started working on a cable strip that wraps around the yoke. It's just 12 stitches worked in a cable panel for about 52". Talk about tedious. So much so that I figured I had better get it out of the way sooner rather than later knowing how I fizzle in progressing after a while.
I haven't had much time to work on knitting right now, as I have a tech-editing project that has a deadline looming closer and closer. So most of my time has been spent tech editing right now.
Nothing else to report… so here's an interesting tid-bit about me: I took a Jung Typology Test, and found out that I'm an ISFJ. Which is: 78% Introverted; 1% Sensing; 25% Feeling; 1% Judging. Here's what they say that means, and this also. I find it to be extremely accurate of how I tend to be. Pretty amazing.
What are you?

Philosopher's Girl
January 16th, 2008
|
I'm buzzing right along on this Twinkle sweater, which I'm now going to refer to as PG of Philosopher's Girl. I just worked the first row of side decreasing, which makes me happy. I always love when I start shaping something, and have to keep track of which row number I'm on. It makes me feel like there's progress being made.
The model garment we had herethat I had originally tried on was not knit in the final yarnso I couldn't get an accurate idea of how the final one would fit me. That model garment measured 34" at the bust, which really surprised me, since I usually make things larger than 37". The real yarn garment came in yesterday and I tried that one one. It was about 33½" (small). For my garment, I cast on for the large, which measured 35" believe it or not. But after trying on the actual small garment, I changed my mind, and want the small. I think anything larger would be too big.
So, rather than futzing with the mohair and trying to rip this all out to begin again for the small, I decided that I would just decrease a few stitches on each side. So, I now have the number of stitches needed for the small, and the cable panels are all in the right place. Here are a few pictures. I know they don't show you exactly what this thing will look like, but it's a start!
Ravel it.

Finished Hat & Mitts
January 15th, 2008
|
It feels so nice to have completed something! I love quick projects, they really satisfy the instant gratification need inside me.
I love this hat, but I think I need to add a little twist or pom pom to the top of it. It feels kinda like one of those old football helmets without it. I also haven't added the twist ties to the ends of the flaps yet. So, I guess I'm not technicall finished. But it's wearable, and it was finished in time for yesterdays "nor-easter".
Ravel it.
I've also cast on for the Twinkle sweater I haven't got any photos of it yet. I'll see if I can snap some over the next day or so. I'm loving it so far, it's working up rather quickly on a size 10 needle with 3 strands of Kid Mohair held together. The drape of the yarn is beautiful too. I really can't wait to wear this. The color isn't one that is typically "me", but it's one that I've loved quite a bit for some time now. I just haven't been brave enough to incorrporate it into my wardrobe yet… well, until now that is.

CEY's Spring line is up
January 11th, 2008
|
I've been waiting so long to share these with you guys! That's one thing about designing for a company, or magazine, or book… you need to wait forever before exposing any details about your work! Anyway… take a look at the gallery to see these designs.
This is Pam Allen's first season with CEY, and I think she's done a fabulous job! The line has a familiar Interweave-like feel to it, which makes me super happy. I've always loved what she had done while she was editor of Interweave Knits, and her joining the CEY team has been a real blessing.
As the graphic designer of these booklets, I have to mention that there's a new layout to them this season. All the photos are at the beginning of the book, then the patterns are toward the back. I think it's much easier to navigate than our old layout, and much more pleasant to the eye. Not to mention that it was a lot easier to lay out than the old way. In the past, with large photos mixed into the pattern text, laying out the booklet was like putting a puzzle together... phew, I'm glad I don't have to deal with that again any time soon.
I feel like I was allowed a lot more creative freedom with this set of booklets, and I must (humbly) say that I'm proud of the way they came outthe designs are beautiful; I think Joëlle and I did a great job tech editing the patterns, the photography is better than anything CEY's done before, and the layout is easier all around. Anyway... enjoy the new booklets! I certainly do!

Knitting away!

Did you guys see Tuesday's CEY Web-Letter? I've been drooling over this hat since I first saw it. I fell in love with the simplicity of the pattern as I was tech editing it, and just haven't been able to get it out of my mind. I was given 2 balls of cashmere yarn by CEY's former Luxury director that have just been hanging around. So, I'm using those up in this hat.
I cast on on Tuesday afternoon, and at the moment, I'm just past the garter stitch edging. I definately don't see this project taking me too long! Woo, knitting again!
I've even got my next project lined up… It's one of Twinkle by Wenlan's new designs in Kid Mohair. There is a model garment floating around the office that I tried on and fell in love with. So I've picked out an icy blue color to make it in. I really hope that nothing pops up that requires my knitting attention before I get to start on this one. It'd be a shame if it didn't get made, as I really really want one! I'll show you guys a photo once the pattern is available to the public… it's not yet though.

I'm Back!
January 7th, 2008
|
Since Christmas I really haven't felt much like doing anything with yarn; knitting, crocheting, designing, tech editing… nothing. Thankfully, I can feel that passing. I think I overloaded my life with obligations that just HAD to be done, that it took the joy out of doing it. I've had about a 2 week break where I haven't piked up the needles (or hook) for anything. Last friday I was working on tech editing a pattern at work, and just couldn't wrap my head around a technique, so for the first time in 2 weeks I picked up a pair of needles and cast on. To be honest, it felt really fabulous to feel the yarn running through my fingers and the coolness of the needles fell so naturally between my fingers. I could tell that the love of playing with yarn was returning from where ever it had vacationed to.
That night, the familiar sweater dreams returned. The ones I get as I'm drifting off to sleep. Most of the time they're floating around, in abundance, one after the other, so quickly that it's impossible for me to see any detail. Occasionally I'll be still enough to have only one design shown to me. These nights I try to make the point of remembering details that I find intriguing and would love to see in real life. This was not one of those nights, but I was still really pleased to learn that it wasn't gone. I did have the concern.
Over this past weekend I must have tech edited 4 or 5 patterns and knit up a funky little hand-warmer thing for my little sister. It's pair is still missing, so I hope I remember what I did for the first one. I should have written it down, but it was one of those things where, when I finished it I planned on starting the second one right away and knew I would remember it. Now I'm not so sure. We'll see.
