Total Neglect

November 29th, 2007

I've been totally (unintentionally) neglecting my website this month. I tend to post things during my break at work, which at the moment doesn't really exist. The Spring '08 booklets need to go to the printer next week, so Joëlle and I have been working out little butts off finishing up tech editing and laying out the booklets. I'm not even sure how I'm able to fit in the Web-Letter layout and what-not each week...

Speaking of web-letters. This weeks pattern is another one of mine. Heather (the director of the Luxury Fiber Division) came to me and asked if I could come up with a cropped vest in Tryst—one of her fabulous cashmere yarns. I couldn't resist. I love cashmere, and the opportunity to create something that could inspire more people to knit with it sounded quite tempting.

I haven't put the pattern up onto my website yet... I'm sure it'll happen soon... but in the mean-time, you can get it from the CEY web-letter, here.

Enjoy!

RIP Buttins

November 21st, 2007

Buttins was a grumpy overweight kitty, whom I loved very much. It was 1994, he was born from my Mom's cat, Tippy, while we were vacationing in Florida. When we came home there were kittens wiggeling along the floor. I was the first one to hold him. We were going to name him Ring Ding, because he was almost perfectly round. But the black spot on his stomach, wanted him to be named Buttins. Spelled incorrectly because we were children, and isn't that how you spell Buttons? He came to live with my sister and I at my Dad's, where we've loved him ever since. He never liked being picked up, as it was always awkward because of his size. In High School my friends nick-named him "Moo Cow" because he was so big.

I guess it's a blessing that he's lived this long. He will be missed.

RIP Buttins

A Leap of Faith

November 16th, 2007

Hi all, I apologize for my lack of posts lately. There's a lot going on. Life's been speaking to me the past few days, and I figured I would post about it, mainly because when I write things down, they stick with me better than if I don't.

So, I've been working my butt off at work tech editing patterns so that we can get our booklets to the printer ASAP, and in doing so, I'm realizing that I drive 45 minutes to an office where all I do is sit in front of a computer all day, just to drive another 45 minutes to get home. Now, wouldn't you think that that is something I could do at home? I have a computer, and all the programs that I use here are available for me to use at home. Why bother spending that extra hour and a half driving? On Wednesday as I was driving home, lots of different scenarios were running through my head. I didn't settle on any of them, but they were there. Yesterday, it was almost as if the idea of working from home, doing what I love was confirmed. I received 2 e-mails from companies asking me to help them out in some way or another. But, because I'm stuck in this 40 hour (47.5 if you count commuting) work week, I felt limited in how much I could do for them. So, I've been seriously thinking about, at least, cutting down on the amount of days I come into work. Three, maybe four days sound good to me. That will give me a little more time to work on tech editing, desiging, etc… I may start by taking Fridays off... see where that gets me. Of course, I'll need to discuss this with my boss first, and hope she understands. I do hope to someday get to the point where tech editing from home is all that I do. Then, I can live anywhere, and not be tied down to a specific location because I need to arrive somewhere every day. I love patterns, and math, so it just makes sense to do what I love, especially when the oportunity is available.

Thanks for listening :)

Finally Raveling!

November 6th, 2007

I've FINALLY received my Ravelry invite. I've spent a little time wandering around and updating information and photos for the designs of mine that are listed on there. If anyone's interested, my screen name is SbutterAMfly, or you could just search for my name and you'll find that out. Happy Raveling everyone!

What a weekend

November 5th, 2007

It's rare that you'll hear me say that I'm happy to be back at work. Sometimes I feel like if I just didn't have some sort of routine to get me up in the morning, that I would just stay in bed. This weekend was a strange one, but definitely not in a bad way. Jim and I don't usually have "party's". Before Saturday, the most people we've had in our apartment at one time probably maxed at about 6. But this year we decided to have some friends over to celebrate Halloween. I stayed home from work on Friday to clean and take care of a few things that I can't do on weekends.

Saturday night some interesting characters arrived—a dark fairy accompanied by a midieval rogue, a catholic cardinal with his nun, a few military people, a pirate, James was "the dude" from The Big Lebowski and I was a pilgrim. I don't have any pictures with me today, and I haven't looked at my camera to see if there are any good ones. So you may or may not get to see some of the costumes. Most of the crowd filtered out around 1:30 or so. The closest of the bunch stayed until about 4:30 (before daylight savings time). So, needless to say we were kept up pretty late. Sunday morning was a very lazy day. There wasn't too much of a mess when I got up. James was up before me and took care of most of it. But he said it wasn't bad. It was a lot of fun. I think we may need to do it again sometime.

In other news... on Friday I also knit up a pair of wrist warmers for my friend Emma, who's birthday was on the first. Unfortunately I don't think I got any photos of them before I wrapped them up and gave them to her. But I loved them so much that I may need to make myself a pair. I also frogged Kevin's hat. He was over on Halloween and I was so concerned that the hat wouldn't fit him that I made him stick it on his head. I was right. He and James were convinced that it would stretch, but I couldn't convince myself to continue knitting based on that assumption. So I ripped it out and started again. I'm now just above the ribbing (again). But, when I refigured my cast on number I miscalculated. I added a multiple of 6 stitches but it should have ben a multiple of 8 stitches. So, I was off by 4 stitches. I wasn't going to rip it out again, so I decided that since the ribbing will be folded up when he's wearing it that it would be okay if the ribbing didn't necessarily line up with the cables. That's something I'm usually pretty anal about, but I think it will be okay for his hat. It gives it a little personality. Of course, I'll fix that in the pattern I eventually write.

Oh, and I also want to really thank my Auntie Jeanne for getting me Barbara Walkers Second Treasury of Knitting patterns. I was so surprised to hear from her, and that she had got this for me. That's super duper nice of you! Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!
