Bits of String?

January 3rd, 2009
If you're at-all like me, you may have a collection of little bits of string hanging around... or... you don't, but you feel a slight twinge of guilt each time you toss anything longer than an inch into the garbage.

Well, the twinges got to me, and I had one of those moments where you smack yourself on the forehead and think to yourself "Why didn't I think of this sooner? Duh!"

Meet my little friend. He now hangs out with me whenever I'm knitting—a swatch, a fingerless mitt, even when I'm tightening my dreads. Every time I find a little piece of string in my hands, longer than an inch and a half (any shorter and it's tricky to knot), it gets added to the tail end of this ball.

If you look closely, you'll even see part of one of my dreadlocks in there... (hey, it fell off... what was I going to do, throw it out?) I got some crazy looks and comments from my friends when they noticed me adding that in there... but they know me well, so it was shrugged off rather quickly.
