about

When did I start designing knit and crochet garments and accessories?

I was hired at Classic Elite Yarns toward the end of March, 2005 as the graphic designer. Quickly I began learning of what needed to be understood to create knitted garments. It was a new and unfamiliar world to me, and my drive to continue learning lead me into designing. All it took was the confidence that it was possible, and the urge to understand knitting and crochet concepts.

When did I start crocheting?

I've been crocheting for as long as I can remember. My mother taught me when I was very young, and unlike other things I've been taught, this stuck! I couldn't read a pattern, but I knew the basics and through trial and error, I created the most bizzare things. Now that I have a bunch of experience under my sleeves, my creations are a bit more structured than they were back when I was making slipper socks that didn't match.

Why did I start Knitting?

That's an interesting story. I saw an ad in the newspaper for a graphic designer who knew how to knit. I had always wanted to teach myself to knit, but never really had a reason to put the effort in. I wasn't happy at the job I had at the time, so this ad was that reason! I thought that even if I didn't apply to THIS ad, it was an interesting field to get myself into. I suprisingly picked it up really quickly, and began writing simple patterns, like I did when I started crocheting (except I wrote them down this time). Three months passed by and I saw a similar ad in another newspaper! This time I applied, and a few weeks later I was stepping into a whole new world!

Why do I continue to design, knit and crochet?

It's my path. I've often asked myself this, and wondered about why this is what I've chosen to do. There is no logical explanation as to why knitting and crocheting skills were given to me, so I've stopped wondering and just accept that it's what I'm meant to be doing, and enjoy every moment. That's all I can do.

What inspires me to design?

Inspiration can be found everywhere, usually when you're not looking. Sometimes there is a texture on a building, or the side of a computer monitor; sometimes the shape of a drinking glass is a shape that may compliment the human form and make a perfect sweater; sometimes there are designs that come to me in dreams, or during meditation; sometimes the inspiration is being sought out so much that it's just not there. It's all a dance, and I need to accept the inspirations as they come, or accept when they're not there. They will be there when they're needed.
